Walkers

Be sure to start by watching our online fundraising show, designed to help you get started and get the most out of our  online tools.

Should I start a team or join as an individual?
If you have a friend or family member joining you, please start a team.  If you are attending alone, please join as an individual.

Should I register my kids?
Yes, please register everyone who will be attending (even toddlers in strollers).  This helps us plan for the day of the event.

I have a family member who wants to join my team but may not be able to attend the walk.  Can they still join my team?
Yes, family members can still support you by joining your team and fundraise as a team member even if they are unable to attend.

Can I start a team with 2 people?
Sure.  There is not a minimum requirement for team size.

Is there a fee to participate?
No.  There are no registration fees, but we encourage each person to reach out to their friends and family for support.

What is the cut-off to register or join a team?
You can register online up to the day of the event.  Please have everyone register as early as possible to give us a good headcount so that we can plan for a better event.  Registration is also available on site the day of the event.

Some of my family would like to come, but not walk.  Do they need to register?

Please make sure to register each person that will attend (even if they do not walk).  It helps us know how many people to plan for.

If I am registered, do I need to do anything else to be pre-registered?
No, if you are already registered online, you are all set.

Is it better to register online or register the morning of the walk?
There are many advantages to registering before the walk.  Here are just a couple.

1. Knowing how many people to expect will help us plan for a better event for everyone.  We order all items based on how many people we have pre-registered for the walk.

2. Each person that registers will receive a webpage within the Walk Now For Autism website.   This will give friends and family a place to go where they can donate directly to you online or get a donation form and mail a donation directly to us that will be credited to your page.   You can also customize this page with a photo and special message.

  8. This is going to be my first “WALK” (APRIL 17-BROWARD-FLORIDA) and I’m really excited. I do walk for my precious Gabriel, he is 6 years old and the best son I’ve ever had. He is doing great at school, his teachers are the best and I’ll do whatever I have to do in order to make him happy and make things right for him. We are exposing him to all activities that a kid of his age should do and he is responding really well. My husband and I work full time but we try to spend any little free time (weekends, dinner, etc) that we have together as a FAMILY. WE DO WALK FOR YOU GABBY. WE ARE REALLY LUCKY TO HAVE YOU. LOVE MOMMY AND DADDY.

  9. This will be my first year as a walker. I have two nephews with autism and hope that by showing my support we can all get a better understanding of the world they live in.

  10. This is not a response, but a question. I would like to make a donation to Autism Speaks, but specifically to Jimmy’s Brigade for Jimmy Esther in St. Louis, MO. Could you give me an address so I could proceed with this? Thank you, Sharon

    • Thank you! You can send the donation to:
      Autism Speaks
      5455 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 2250
      Los Angeles, CA 90036

Please make sure to indicate this is for Jimmy’s Brigade for Jimmy Esther in St. Louis, MO.

  11. I would like to volunteer for the third straight yearI would like to greet the walkers and give direction and support. I have excellant skills with special needs of any kind. Thankyou

  12. I walk for my son Eric. He was miss diagnosis for years. He had a hearing problem that was not caught until he was three. It was fixed but I noticed that there was still something different for the next five years, doctors and teachers told me that because of the hearing delay and he was a boy, he would be alittle behind. In second grade he was with some other kids and I noticed something profoundly different. Months on a waiting list for a Neurologist to get the life changing news. Your son has autism. What does that mean. I didn’t know and that why this is so important. To bring awareness and early intervention, treatment and support.

  13. We were schuduled to walk in the Ciccinnati walkathom. We were unable to make it, but I have a couple donations from my friends in cash. I would like to know where to send the money too, and I would like to give them a receipt showing them that their money did go to where they were donating it too. I will wait on your comment until I do anything. Hope you can help me so I can help you. Our team was called “Jake’s Pit Crew”.

    • Hi Linda,
Thank you so much for paricipating in the Cincinnati Walk. You can send any donations to our office:
      Autism Speaks
      Donations Dept – Cincinnati Walk
      5455 Wilshire Blvd., #2250
      Los Angeles, CA 90036
Please include a donation form for each donor. Donation forms can be printed from your webpage. The link (make a donation offline) is just under your goals.

  15. I have a grandson that has Asburgers and hope to learn more about this disorder by going to the walk!

  16. I was so exited to join, I just chose the toys r us team, not realizing I could start my own since I lan to walk with my two daughters. Can I change this, or should I just sign my daughters up as members of the toys r us team? Do they have to have their own page then?

    • Hi Nicole, You only have to seperately register your daughters if they’d like their own fundraising pages. I’m sure the Toys R Us team is happy to have you, but if you’d like to start your own team, your local walk manager can help you get set up: cleveland@autismspeaks.org or (216) 538-9543.
