Team Captains

Why form a team?
Walking with people you know makes participating in the Walk Now for Autism event more fun! Fundraising together makes it that much easier to reach your goals. Teams can be made up of co-workers, friends, family members or anyone who wants to walk for a great cause. Accelerating autism research is a team effort and Team Captains are our leaders in that fight. If you can recruit four dedicated people to walk with you (and we know you can!), consider becoming a team captain.

  1. I am a team captain for Portland’s walk on Saturday, Sept 26. Is there any information
I can pass on to my team? Like what is the exact address on the park blocks? Will sponsors be there for water or any other handouts? Will I be able to hand over donations at the walk? Will we be entitled to a t-shirt for every $150 donated? My cell phone is 503 781-0378. Or please put me in touch with someone in Portland who has this information. Thanks much.

Also, would I be able to get three T-shirts for the Walk, I will pay for them. There will be three of us who would like to walk, myself, my daughter, Karen and her finance, Brad. Please advise. You can create your own team or walk as an individual; it’s up to you. There is no minimum of team members so it can be you and your son and that’s it! If you have more questions about the Terre Haute Walk, please email terrehaute@autismspeaks.org.

  15. Hosting a silent auction event and some donors have asked for tax forms for thier donations…is this available to us?

    • Hi Mlissa,
Autism Speaks will be responsible for the distribution of charitable receipts in the appropriate circumstances. Just for your information – we can issue tax receipts for donations only if we have the full name and address for each donor and if the donation is made directly to our organization. I would suggest working with your local staff to ensure we can get the appropriate tax receipts to everyone.

  17. Hi. I am a team captain. I’ve been looking for other ways to raise more tahn $1000 in donations . Anyone have some ideas other thand waht I’ve tried raising from the booklet we get.

    • I have utilized Facebook. Gather friends and family who are work at home parents or those with access to items they can donate for an auction. Then create a photo album on facebook and host an “auction” for a week where people bid on the items. Then just donate the amount raised. :) I used this twice this year, and raised over $600 in small auctions. It helped boost my total. :)
