2011 Columbus Walk Now for Autism Speaks Recap

The weather was magnificent for the fourth annual Columbus Walk Now for Autism Speaks on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Value City Arena at The Jerome Schottenstein Center.  15,000 walkers attended and raised $950,000 and counting – well on our way to the $1 million mark.  Participants enjoyed the famous White Castle coffee, numerous breakfast themed ice cream treats from Dairy Queen and gluten-casein free snacks from Raisin Rack.  People were not the only ones to enjoy the day as the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium, therapy dogs and miniature horses attended the festivities.  Many activities were available for families including the children’s band, Endless Recess and the trio of InnerVision who performed an incredible rendition of the national anthem to start the opening ceremonies.  Once again, Brutus Buckeye and the Ohio State University Athletic Band led the White Castle team  through the balloon arch to start the Walk.

Huge thanks to our Walk Chairpersons, Kathy Borkowski and Doug Krinsky and the incredible executive committee members!  Our friends from White Castle were on hand to present a check in the amount of $525,000 from their puzzle piece campaign and candle sales.  Truly an amazing effort!

Special thanks to Lori Peacock for her Walk day photos!
