2011 Kansas City Walk Now for Autism Speaks

It was a beautiful Fall Walk Day in Kansas City, on Saturday, September 24th as over 6500 walkers attended the 4th Annual Kansas City Walk Now for Autism Speaks at the Kansas Speedway. Since 2008, Kansas City has raised over a $600,000 dollars for funding autism research, awareness, advocacy , and family services. This weekend we raised $150,000 and are continuing to raise more funds to help us reach our goal of $200,000!

Our friend Will had a BLAST in the ‘Hamster Ball’!

This year we had a full house with over 40 Resource Vendors from Kansas and Missouri. The ABCn’D Autism Center Sensory Tent was popular this year with their “Hamster Ball” which had young and old participating.  Kansas City did not fall short in entertainment as Ponch with Mix 93.3 kicked off the Walk in style along with dance moves from B.E.S.T Network, and songs from, “No Such Thing as Normal”, a musical about Autism Awareness from Miss Gaby and Friends.  Timothy Boykin, a young adult with ASD led the crowd in the National Anthem as Kansas City proceeded to take to the Walk route.

The day was wrapped up with seeing new faces and familiar faces all coming together to support those that serve and are touched by autism.  A very special thank you to all our sponsors, Thompson Foundation, VisiMed, Children’s Mercy Hospital, Sporting KC, Midland- AEG Live,UMB-Stage Sponsor ,First National Bank, Brain Balance, Sam’s Club, VML Foundation, American Century, Bennett Automotive, Nature’s Pantry National, and  Toy’s R Us & Babies R Us;  Media sponsors Mix 93.3, Parenting Children with Special Needs Magazine and NBC Ch.41.  In kind sponsors are, US Foodservice, SmallCakes, T-REX, Wild Bill’s, Kneaded Specialities, Micah’s Friends Photography.

A special thank you to all our Grand Club members,  teams and to Rick and Kathy Bennett the Walk Co-Chairs along with the 2011 Kansas City Walk Committee for putting on such a fantastic event!  Check out photos from the Walk on our Facebook page by visiting https://www.facebook.com/AutismSpeaks.KC.
