2011 San Diego Walk Now for Autism Speaks Recap

Walk Participants lined up eager to start walking

The 7th Annual San Diego Walk Now for Autism Speaks took place at Liberty Station of Point Loma, San Diego on Saturday, Sept 10th. Despite a county wide blackout that occurred a few days prior that threaten to put a damper on the day, 2500 passionate Walk participants crowded Ingram Plaza eager to walk and show their support for Autism Speaks.

Behind the leadership of the new Walk Chair, Steven Gorup, this year’s walk was labeled as “the best one ever”. Honorary Co-Chairs, Kimberly Hunt from ABC 10 and her husband Billy Ray Smith, an ex-San Diego Charger Linebacker excited the crowd and made everyone feel a part of something grand. The MC for the Walk, Little Tommy steered the audience through each musical acts that consisted of the Pink Army, Arrest My Sister, Kingsmen, MTCCA Band, and many more. A moment of silence was held to honor the victims of 9/11 and 7 year old boy, Brody Merila gave a heartfelt performance of the “Star Spangled Banner”.  As of to date, an astounding $104,000 has been raised with thousands more to follow. An incredible feat for all participants and supporters of the walk.
