2011 Pittsburgh Walk Now for Autism Speaks

Over 12,000 individuals came out on a beautiful, sunny day in Pittsburgh to participate in the 12th Annual Pittsburgh Walk Now for Autism Speaks at Heinz Field on Saturday, June 4th.

The Walk, co-chaired by Candi Cybator and Kim Motosicky, raised over $726,000 with donations still arriving.  Our teams displayed incredible team spirit through their cheers, and incredible signs dedicated to supporting their loved ones with autism.  Congratulations to our 13 top teams who raised over $10,000 each and our 104 Grand Club Members who raised members who raised a minimum of $1,000 each.  There is still time to become members of these elite clubs.

Special thanks to our emcee Larry Richert who did an outstanding job at motivating the teams. Also, a huge shout out to DJ Bob Scullion for uplifting the teams and kicking off the event and Bob Abramson from Bob Abramson Photography who spent the day taking photos.

We would like to thank all of our service providers that attended and our amazing sponsors that helped to make the Pittsburgh Walk possible.  The Community Resource fair featured 47 service providers focused on helping families affected by autism.  Our National Sponsors Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us were in attendance and had samples of their Differently Abled Toys.  Our local corporate sponsors including AERI, Family Behavioral Resources, FedEx, Pepsico, NHS Human Services, Children’s Hospital, CIGNA, Community Care, EDMC, Giant Eagle, New Story, Pitt Ohio, Pressley Ridge, Pittsburgh Fire Fighters, Watson Institute, University of Pittsburgh Dept of Pathology, US Steel, Buncher Family Foundation, Dick’s Sporting Goods, GNC , JSP International, Pediatric Alliance, Thomas Lane Consulting, Pediatric Therapy Professionals, Smithfield Trust Company, Wesley Spectrum Services all help to make our event successful.  Thanks to the many sponsors who also formed a Walk team!

Participants enjoyed entertainment and goodies provided by Baughman, Daily Juice, Eat n Park, Fed Ex, Frito Lay, Gatorade, James Tobin, KDKA Radio, McDonald’s, Panera, PepsiCo, Pitt Ohio, Pittsburgh Pirate Parrot, Tri-Rivers Clown Alley, Quaker Oats, lake Erie Pirates, and 327th Star Corps.   A huge thank you to all of the Walk day volunteers who helped to make the day run smoothly.  Last but not least- THANK YOU to all of the wonderful participants who worked hard for months leading up to the Walk and to all those who will continue to work to raise the much needed awareness and funds to support the mission of Autism Speaks.
