2011 Southern New Jersey Walk Now for Autism Speaks

The Southern New Jersey Walk Now for Autism Speaks marked its 10th anniversary on Saturday, May 21st at Bishop’s Gate Corporate Center in Mount Laurel, NJ with more than 4,500 participants.  Ten years ago, 1,000 walkers came together and raised $100,000.  This year, the Walk raised over $290,000, and hopes to meet its goal of $383,000 before the end of the year.  10 years have brought a lot of change and positive support to our community and have given us a lot to celebrate.

To commemorate the special anniversary, 10-year teams were given special 10th anniversary bracelets, were recognized during the opening ceremony, and had special signs to carry during the Walk.  Debbie and Todd Schmidt, founders of our Southern New Jersey Walk, shared heartfelt remarks with all in attendance.

Thank you to all of our participants who worked year-round to raise dollars and awareness for our cause; to our sponsors who helped to helped to underwrite our expenses, allowing donor dollars to have a greater impact upon our mission; to the 32 Resource Fair participants who shared mission materials and valuable resources with our families; and to all of the volunteers who made the event safe and fun for all of our families!  We would also like to extend a huge thank you to our Walk chair, Krista deMurguiondo, and to our entire Walk planning committee for the gifts of their time and talents.

We’re looking forward to fundraisers throughout the summer and fall to help us hit our goal and raise additional awareness for our mission.  Five ShopRite stores throughout Southern New Jersey are about to host a puzzle piece campaign through the month of June, so help support their efforts as you grocery shop!    Please contact us at (856) 858-5400 or southernnewjersey@autismspeaks.org to let us know what you have planned in the coming months.  Let’s keep our celebration going and continue to change futures for all who live with autism.
