2011 Broward Walk Now for Autism Speaks

The 11th Annual Broward Walk Now for Autism Speaks took place on the Sherman Library Green on Saturday, April 9 with 250 teams and over 10,000 walkers in attendance helped bring in over $260,000 to date with many teams still doing fundraising throughout Autism Awareness Month.  It was a picture perfect day and the smiles and excitement certainly reflected that!

Walk Co-Chairs Brandi Nash, Rachael Baldassarra, and Dianne Orr along with their amazing Walk Committee and 200+ volunteers made sure that the day went off without a hitch and that there was something for everyone to enjoy!  Much thanks goes to The Puzzling Piece for completing their iPad Challenge at the Walk making the winner Judy on Team Wedder Turtles a very happy walker indeed!

A huge thank you to all our Walk Sponsors; this year’s Corporate Visionary Sponsor South Florida Ford, along with Surfers for Autism, Eppy Financial Group, Action Supply Company, Angels Services, All Bounce and More and Venue Sponsor, Nova Southeastern University.  Special thanks to Tunies, and Sysco, and Cheney Brothers and Costco for their generous donations of snacks and water and to the DiGiulio Family for making sure we had ice cream to make the day so special!

Emcee, Jen Herrera, WPLG/Local 10 News Anchor warmed up the crowd and Geoffrey the giraffe from Toys “R” Us was on hand along with Miami HEAT Dancers and the FL Panther Ice Dancers signing autographs. Andy, the monkey from My Kids County made friends with walkers young and old!  From the Angel’s Services Video Truck to the Kids Area sponsored by All Bounce and More to the band Communication Breakdown there was something for everyone to enjoy. Parents were able to get great resource information from 45 vendors and sponsors. South Florida Ford Dealers provided an Official Pace Car for the start off the Walk and also made generous donations for everyone who logged into their Facebook page and let the world know they were at the event.  DJ Gary Gore kept the crowd grooving to great the music throughout the day.  For more information about the Broward Walk, contact Jaclyn Merens, South Florida Regional Director at . Visit our Broward Facebook page for great photos that captured the day! Thank you to everyone who came out and to everyone who supported the event.  Autism Speaks and Broward County is certainly listening!
