2010 Kutztown Walk Now for Autism Speaks

It was a beautiful October day as 300 advocates publically walked two miles through Kutztown to spread autism awareness. On Saturday October 9, the Kutztown/Tri-County Walk Now for Autism Speaks raised $10,000 at their inaugural walk in Kutztown Park.

Walk Chair, Angela Manzella welcomes the crowd

The committee originally set a fundraising goal of $5,000, but as festivities came to a close at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, donation totals hovered under $10,000!

The Walk included a resource fair for families, a craft fair, raffle, live music, and activities for children. Represented at the Walk were autism advocacy organizations, Kutztown University student groups, and a music therapist. There was even a visit from the Toys‘R’Us mascot, Geoffrey the Giraffe.

The Kutztown Walk was spearheaded by Kutztown University’s May 2010 graduate, Angela Manzella. Manzella says, “Holding a walk in Kutztown strengthens the network of support for families with autistic children and connects the resources of both Lehigh and Berks counties.”

Thank you to the team captains, walkers, sponsors and donors who made the inaugural Kutztown Tri-County Walk Now for Autism Speaks a success!
