2010 Tennessee Walk Now for Autism Speaks

The 2010 Tennessee Walk Now for Autism Speaks was greeted with a beautiful sunny day, 25 Resource Providers and nearly 2,500 enthusiastic families and friends.  Our new location was a HUGE hit, the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park in downtown Nashville and provide beautiful views to compliment the new venue.

For the third year we had guest emcee, Evan Farmer who is the current host of CMT’s Top 20 Video Countdown.  Evan has been strong supporter of Autism Speaks for years and we are grateful to have him on our team.  In addition to Evan we had guest performances by Country Singer  Nathan Osmond, son of original Osmond Brother group Alan Osmond, who has a son on the spectrum, and the very special Katie Chance.  Katie is twelve years old and on the autism spectrum.  She didn’t talk until she was four years old but now brings a crowd to their feet when she performs.  She performed at the Sawyer  Brown benefit concert two days before the Walk and amazed the crowd again on Walk day with her incredible talent and powerful stage performance.

Our top Corporate Sponsor, Wholesale Inc, surprised us with a check presentation on stage in the amount of $5,000 and raffled off two bikes for our guest.   Amazing new supporters for 2010.

In honor of September 11th, the Smyrna High School ROTC offered a presentation of the colors during the singing of the National Anthem.  The stage was colorful with flowers and balloons representing the beautiful Red White and Blue and set the tone for our moment of silence honoring those we lost on this date nine years ago.   Nathan Osmond closed our event with the heart-warming Lee Greenwood song, “I’m Proud to be an American” where the entire crowd sang along and their wasn’t a dry eye in sight!

A big THANK YOU to the many volunteers who worked so tirelessly to make this event such a success and to our generous supporters and sponsors in community.
