2010 NYC Walk Now for Autism Speaks

This past Sunday, more than 18,000 participants supported the sixth annual NYC Walk Now for Autism Speaks.  Together, we raised over $870,000 (and counting!) to fund the most promising autism research, advance advocacy, provide family services, and raise autism awareness.

Our NYC Walk Co-Chairs, Michele Montanez and Stuart Flaum, along with all of the NYC Community Leadership Committee members, hosted a memorable walk at the South Street Seaport in N.Y.  Congratulations to our 143 Grand Club Members and 66 Top Teams, to date.

The walkers were honored to have Suzanne Wright, Co-Founder of Autism Speaks, joining them for the first time to walk the NYC Walk with them. Other special guests included Jesse Plemons of NBC’s “Friday Night Lights,” Michael Boley of the NY Giants, Miss Long Island and Miss Long Island Teen who all greeted the Grand Club Members and Top Team Captains.

Walk Day performers included Elizabeth’s Dance Studio, David Rodriguez, GQ management presents 857, Hunter College High School Jazz Band, Emily Katter, Glenholme School Choral Group, and last but certainly not least, One Guy from Upstate.

Geoffrey the Giraffe from Toys”R”Us and the Hi 4 Costume Characters also excited the children with photos, face painting and comedy.

Our National Sponsors, Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us were in attendance and had samples of their Differently Abled Toys for children on the spectrum as well as signing people up for their Birthday Club.  Our local corporate sponsors including Barclays Capital, Extended Home Care, Heartland Brewery, Rothstein Kass & Co., Zenith Media, BBDO, NL Financial Alliance, Cerberus Capital, Carolina Brown Rice, Funky Monkey, Men on the Move, Eco Ready Batteries, Glenholme School, Theracare, and NYU Child Study Center all joined us at the Walk with both Walk teams and sponsor tables to provide information to all the participants.  Our Corporate Sponsors’ commitment and support is outstanding and so greatly appreciated!

In addition to all our sponsors we had 16 Resource Fair participants in attendance who shared information about their organizations and the services they provide while entertaining the children with games and some candy!  We’d also like to thank our countless in-kind sponsors who donated their special treats, which were enjoyed by ALL.

And last, but certainly not least to our wonderful participants who attended.  There would not be an event without you!

Thanks to all for your tremendous efforts in the success of the 2010 NYC Walk Now for Autism Speaks – we are truly grateful!
