2010 Georgia Walk Now for Autism Speaks

It was a HOT sunny day in Atlanta for the fourth annual Georgia Walk Now for Autism Speaks in partnership with the Marcus Autism Center.  The Walk was held on May 23, 2010 at Atlantic Station in Atlanta.  Walk Chairs Suzanne Wheeler and Tim Cartledge started the Walk with special guests Mark Roithmayr, Bernie and Billi Marcus, Donna Lowry of 11 Alive Anchor and 20,000 participants who followed on the 2.7 mile Walk. Suzanne said, “ This was the most enthusiastic crowd we have seen yet.  You could hear the cheering of the teams as they stepped thru the balloon arches.”

Families were offered a fun and exciting day with a Kids Korner, bounce houses, rock climbing wall and bungee jump.  The Community Resource Fair featured 43 Georgia providers and hosted a “Why You Walk” Tent inviting walkers to write a message or post a photo with their inspiration for supporting Autism Speaks which were then displayed on the stage.  Over 50 Grand Club members enjoyed the VIP tent along with Gold Sponsor, Signature FD.

Congratulations to our top Teams – Signature FD, Buddy’s Zebras, Alpha Xi Delta, Team Marcus – Children’s, Team Amit and Team Calgon.  Many thanks to all our corporate sponsors, team captains, walkers, volunteers and committee members who came together to raise over $603,000!
