National Capital Area Walk Now for Autism Speaks

Alpha Xi DC

D.C. loves Alpha Xi Delta!

Halloween in Washington, D.C. started bright and early at the ninth annual National Capital Area Walk Now for Autism Speaks! Thousands of walkers, who enjoyed a scenic Walk route framed by the Capitol Building and the Washington Monument, raised over $756,000. Top team “Jack Garchik’s Crew” led the walk on Jack’s fifth birthday. The crowds were joined by WUSA-9 weatherman Topper Shutt and reporter Peggy Fox, Miss Maryland, Brooke Poklemba, the American University basketball team, The University of Maryland’s dance team, and more than 100 volunteers from area Alpha Xi Delta chapters! Resource fair vendors welcomed trick-or-treaters and a fairy princess presided over the Grand Club tent for walkers who raised $1,000 or more.

Walk Chairs Marla Garchik, Jodi Folta, and Margie Halem thanked their valiant Walk committee and the more than 200 volunteers who dressed in bright orange to cheer on the crowd. Watch WUSA-9 CBS TV’s coverage online.
