2010 Arizona Walk Now for Autism Speaks

Geoffrey gathers everyone together in Arizona’s Tempe Beach Park to start the Walk.

The 2010 Arizona Walk Now for Autism Speaks was an incredible success, bringing together more than 14,000 walkers on Halloween morning to raise $900,000! The outpouring of support and generosity from our event sponsors, autism resource fair exhibitors, event entertainment groups, volunteers and more than 500 teams created an inspiring event at Tempe Beach Park in Tempe, AZ.

Doug Sanders, president/COO of Sprouts Farmers Market and the Arizona Walk Chair, along with his wife Cindy and his son Ethan, present $100,000 to Mark Roithmayr, President of Autism Speaks, Howard Sobelman, Chairman of SARRC, and Jeri Kendle, President of SARRC.

Our heartfelt thanks goes out to Sprouts Farmers Market, visionary sponsor for the Arizona Walk; Doug Sanders, president/COO of Sprouts and our 2010 Walk chairman; and the hundreds of volunteers who helped with planning and organizing this year’s event. Proceeds from the Walk benefit both Autism Speaks and the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC), as this unique partnership at the Arizona Walk moves into its 6th year. In a rare collaboration, Autism Speaks and SARRC partner to produce the Arizona Walk Now for Autism Speaks to raise funds and awareness to support all those affected by autism. Together we are one strong voice and one united team. Combining, resources, skills and the talents of two organizations and hundreds of volunteers, we can make the greatest impact in Arizona. Our goal is to propel autism research to help uncover the causes, effective treatments and possible cures for this country’s most common developmental disorder, autism. We are also working to provide vital resources across the lifespan that will improve the quality of life for the rapidly growing population of teenagers and adults with autism.
